Miracles Happen Everyday

It is 1975. After a number of years of unsuccessful attempts, a couple decided the only way they can have a child of their own is to adopt.  They set on the long path to adoption by waiting. They wait for five years to find a birth mom willing to give up her baby.  A baby girl is born!  The adoptive couple are excited and cannot wait to hold their baby. At the last moment, the birth mom's heart changes and she decides to keep the baby.  The adoptive parents are crushed and they must wait again.  Two more long years pass. It is now 1982. The adoptive parents find a new birth mom.  One day in March, they get a call that their son was born.  A boy!  It is a joyous occasion.  A few days later the boy comes home and is named Matthew, meaning God's gift.

This is just one of the miracles of my life, and I wasn't even born yet!  God gave my husband his parents.  My husband's parents felt the pain and joy of the adoption process, and they were blessed with a son. My husband was blessed with amazing parents who raised him with love and support.  God put Matthew into their arms for a reason.  The 7 year wait was worth it, and their patience brought them a miracle.

The first miracle of my life is just that- my life!  My parents were not planning on having me and were taking precautions to not get pregnant.  God had other plans for them.  Even though they were living far from home, even though they had no money, even though they just bought a puppy, God gave them another life to nurture and love.

How could a boy from Dillsburg and a Navy brat girl find love?  By following God's plan without even trying!  Our lives have never been left to chance.

Matthew has told me that he looked at other colleges, but God kept giving him signs to go to Millersville. His jazz band performed at MU, he took a test at MU, and during a visit he was in awe over a computerized soda machine. He listened to God and went to MU.  Instinctively I knew to go to Millersville; it was my first choice.  We met my sophomore year.  Matthew happened to be roommates with a friend of mine.  During the lottery process of picking rooms for the next year, Matthew pulled the number 3.  A friend of his told him, if there was anything of chance to be done, today was the day to do it.  That was the day he asked me out.  To make a long story short, it all worked out in the end, but the miracles don't stop there.

We were married, and within the first month of our marriage we conceived our amazing son.  Our original "plan" was to wait a few years.  We have since learned to follow God's plan, and since we don't know what that is, we just put our lives in His hands and let Him lead us where He wants us.  Next miracle- the first month we stopped NFP we conceived our beautiful baby girl.

The miracle of life is the biggest miracle, but there are plenty of small ones that happen daily.  I am able to stay home with my children and watch them grow and learn.  I am able to homeschool them and help them bloom into whatever they want to be.  We have a house, we have food, and we have plenty of love to go around.  I cannot complain, even on a rainy day, because miracles happen everyday.  God has a large plan for us, and for that I am grateful.
