Journal 9/30/11

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…
This week has been a little busy.  I played and sang for a wedding last weekend as well as one for this coming weekend.  I started 3 year old preschool at HNJ..  Sebastian started his 4 year old preschool at HNJ.  Sebastian also tried Tae Kwon Do.  He wouldn't actually go out on the mat and try it out.  Instead, he sat next to me on the floor and moaned.  I hope that he tries it next week.  It looks like so much fun, and I think he would love it, if he would give it a fair chance and try it with the other kids.  There are three boys in his class and they are all his age.  They practice punching, kicking, blocking, and courtesy.  I think Sebastian could learn a lot and it clearly tired the kids out.  I'll cross my fingers that next week he doesn't "turn off" before we get there.
In our homeschool this week…
We finished with learning all the sounds of the consonants this week.  He is very good at recognizing all the upper and lower case letters, but he gets confused with q and g.  We also worked on the Hundreds Castle and Sebastian really understands place value in regards to units, tens, and hundreds! We also made a lapbook on the Creation. I had Sebastian memorize a small verse: God said, "Let there be light." And there was light. He loved this unit. We made crafty-crafties, played matching games, played math games, and did other educationally founded games to learn the Bible study. He asked to start every school day with some "God time." I <3 him.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
This weekend we are traveling to Pittsburgh for my nephew's baptism!  I am his soon-to-be Godmother and I am proud. :)

Things I’m working on…
First quarter is winding down next week, so I am busy planning the second quarter.  We are going to start Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons and sight words (I, a, am, the)
