Homeschool Journal Oct 21, 2012

In my life this week…

I am finally used to our family's schedule. It takes me a few weeks to get used to the hectic schedule of the school year, and this year I had my gall bladder removed right when I was starting to get in the swing of things and it messed me up.  We are good now, and I am happy to know what to expect every day.

In our homeschool this week…

Sebastian is doing a great job in school. He is reading fairly well now. It is starting to click and now he wants to read everything he sees! I am letting him devour the reading lessons and he is having a great time.

He is also memorizing addition facts and it doing well with his speed. So far we have +0, +1, +2, and +9 memorized. His +2 are a bit slower but he is working on it. We made an addition lapbook to go with Math-U-See so that he can work on his addition facts in different ways. One of his favorite things to do in math class is word problems (especially if the subject matter is My LIttle Pony or Pokemon).

Sebastian started viola lessons this week with me! I wasn't expecting much, but he is eating it up. He already has learned three songs and we have gone through the first three lessons. He loves it and is enjoying it. So far it is fun for him to practice and he hasn't whined about it at all. He looks forward to practicing and it is so much fun for the two of us to do it together.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

This week we are going to a local television station on a field trip! I am more excited than Sebastian, lol. Besides a fun field trip, we also have our trick-or-treat night this Thursday.
My favorite thing this week was…
Seeing things click with Sebastian. His reading is finally getting off the ground and he is so proud of himself. Seeing his self-esteem grow is a wonderful thing.

What’s working/not working for us…

Math-U-See if working fantastic, as is Primary Arts of Language: Reading and Writing.  I will have to write a review of these curriculums for you. I am very impressed with how well they are working for us.

Our Field Trip to ZooAmerica a few weeks ago. We had a blast.
