Week 3: Just Keep Swimming

This week has not been easy. The kids were not as excited about school and their attitudes showed me how much they don't care to put effort into their school work. Unfortunately, three our of five school days ended up being recorded as "mopey" and "disrespectful" days from the kids. The plus side is that we ended the week on a high note. I guess I will take that. Because of the impending birth of a new sibling, the air in the house has been laced with energy. All three kids are bouncing around and now that I am in the home stretch, I don't have the ability to control them as much as I wish. Life will continue and I have to remind myself to "just keep swimming." I look forward to Oliver's arrival and a few weeks of low-key readjustment to a new family dynamic without worrying about getting any school work done.

What was Sebastian doing?

Sebastian has started his state studies now. We are working on the New England states and capitols. He doesn't seem to be a fan of geography, but he hasn't complained... too much... We are learned about the circulatory system and I even let him watch a video of a human heart beating during a surgery. I pre-screened it, so although it was still a bit disgusting to me, he thought it was one of the coolest things.

Sometimes you have to fall asleep on your big brother

What was Kaelyn doing?

I have been focusing on getting Kaelyn to be a stronger and more confident reader. One thing that changed this week was her ability to write a journal entry.  Look at what she did!  I may have helped her spell "baby Oliver," but the rest was all her own work. I am so proud of her.

"baby Oliver is coming soon! I will teach Oliver. Oliver is little. He is from Mommy."
The picture is of Mommy and Daddy going to the hospital (on the left- I am the fat one because she told me my belly is REALLY BIG now) and Kaelyn and Sebastian are on the right waiting at home for Oliver. Apparently we won't have anyone watching them when we go to the hospital.

What was Miles doing?

Miles had a rough week. He is squarely in the "terrible twos" and I just want to take a nap. He isn't napping anymore and he wakes up around 6 am every morning. Clearly he is exhausted and he is taking it out on EVERYONE. He has moments of cute, but he is in a rough spot right now. It doesn't help that the energy in the house is wacky because it is just making him insane. We also figure we have been letting him use electronics too much. We are doing electronic detox this weekend so hopefully we see some improvement next week.

What were the adults doing?

Same old, same old!

Highlight of the week

I am 36 weeks pregnant and the pregnancy is going well!  Last week, after an ultrasound, I was worried that we were going to have to be induced early, but my doctor said the baby is looking great and there is no immediate problem. I just have to keep on doing what I am doing and things should be fine to have a natural birth. Whew!  I held my breath all last weekend because I was worried about it.

The big hit in our school

I cannot tell you enough how well my Erin Condren Teacher Planner is working for me in school. I am completely organized and it makes getting set up for school each day easy. It also only takes a few minutes to plan for the next week. To be honest, I wasn't sure how it was going to work, but I am pleasantly surprised with how well it is working for me.
