Adventures of Rush Revere Review

Sebastian has been enjoying the Adventures of Rush Revere Book Series from Adventures of Rush Revere #1 New York Times Bestselling Book Series by Rush and Kathryn Adams Limbaugh.


Sebastian loves reading. He devours books and is always asking for more to read. When the opportunity came to have him read a five-book series, I was anticipating his excitement. It took him less than a week to read through all the books, but he did go back and reread his favorite.

The pages of the books look like parchment paper, which is a fun touch they added. There are pictures scattered throughout the books and my son loves when chapter books add in pictures. The reading level wasn't difficult for my son, who is turning 10 this week. Even if the books are a bit hard for a child to read, these books make fantastic read alouds. There is action, life lessons for present day, and fun moments that kids and adults would enjoy.

Although I am not a fan of politics or Rush Limbaugh, I can say these books are not written for his fans. Sebastian has no idea who Rush Limbaugh is and it doesn't matter!  The books are wonderful historical-fiction pieces that help bring alive certain moments in history for kids. The fact that Rush Revere is a time-traveler made Sebastian fall in love with the books. Time travel is awesome!  One of the best parts is how each book focuses on a student in Rush Revere's class and helps them see how our nation's history has meaning in our everyday lives today.

Rush Revere is a history teacher with a horse named Liberty who can talk, time travel, stop time, and turn invisible. There are five books in the series. The first book, Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims, is about the Mayflower and the first year the pilgrims spent in the New World.  The second book, Rush Revere and the First Patriots, we time travel to right before the American Revolution. The third book, Rush Revere and the American Revolution, we learn what freedom means by traveling to the middle of the action and meeting John Hancock and George Washington. The fourth book, Rush Revere and the Star-Spangled Banner, Rush Revere and his middle school class visit Washington D.C. and monuments and learn about the government while also traveling back to see the writing of the national anthem. In the fifth and final book, Rush Revere and the Presidency, we learn about the early presidents as well as elections while highlighting how to serve each other in the government.

Sebastian's favorite book was Rush Revere and the First Patriots.  Here is his take on the book:

The book was about the first patriots doing things like the Boston Tea Party. Some of the characters were Rush Revere, the history teacher; Tommy, one of the students; Liberty, Rush's talking horse; and Freedom, another student. My favorite character is Liberty because he wants to eat all the time. It was exciting meeting Benjamin Franklin. He was part of a group called Sons of Liberty who were the first patriots fighting back. The time traveling crew had to deal with Elizabeth, another student, who tried to change history and keep England ruling over the colonies. I would recommend these books for kids age 8 and up, people who like adventures and American history.
