The
Battle of Bunker Hill began on June 16, 1775. Colonel William
Prescott was in charge of the colonists. The angry
colonials were instructed
to fiercely throw
bombs at the British red coats. [#3] Bravely, Colonel Prescott told
the colonials, “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their
eyes!” When they
opened fire, the British panicked and fled, which
made General Howe reorganize a third assault. [#2] Despite losing the
battle, the colonials gained confidence and showed off their
toughness.
