We Choose Virtues Review and Coupon Code

Over the last few weeks, my family and I have had the chance to check out We Choose Virtues, a character building program.  I was sent the virtue flash cards, a download of the coloring book called Kids of Virtueville, downloadable butterfly awards, one Parent Card, the teacher's handbook, and a story and memory verse guide.  I chose to receive memory verses from the NIV Bible, but there was also an option for the KJV and a secular version as well.

I will admit I didn't use everything that was given to us, but that is because I was able to adapt We Choose Virtues to fit our family better. The first thing we did was use the Family Character Assessment. Sebastian, my 5 year old son, and I did this together. He was surprisingly honest about himself and the areas he needed to improve. According to Sebastian, we needed to start with perseverance, self-control, and obedience.

 The next thing we did was go through the virtue flashcards. They are sturdy, so I didn't mind letting the kids handle them. I let the kids look at the pictures and then I pulled out the three virtues we decided we were going to work on over the next couple week, and put the rest of the cards away.

Sebastian doesn't particularly like to color, but he did color the first page of the coloring book. Kaelyn, my 2 year old daughter, enjoyed coloring the pictures of the kids. 

The first virtue we worked on was Perseverance. Along with the Bible hero story and memory verse, we bolstered the concept by reading other stories for perseverance. We read the tortoise and the hare as well as By My Brother's Side by Tiki and Ronde Barber and The Little Engine that Could by Watty Piper. These stories helped to explain the concept a little better than just the Bible verse and story alone. Another thing that helped with this concept was reminding Sebastian of the Tae Kwon Do training he had taken. We talked about the difficulties he had with some of the exercises the instructors asked him to do. We talked about how he kept working on it and he improved in the exercises. This is the basic way we worked on the virtues. We used the flashcards as memory devices for the verses and stories. The kids enjoyed the pictures and Sebastian didn't feel that this was "school" which is always a good thing.
